John Bailey

John Bailey serves as the Executive Director of Digital Learning Now, a national initiative of the Foundation for Excellence in Education that works with policymakers and innovators to accelerate the adoption of new models of education.  John previously served at the White House as Special Assistant to the President for Domestic Policy during the Bush administration and was the Deputy Policy Director for the U.S. Secretary of Commerce.  John’s experience also includes working at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation where he built a portfolio of advocacy grants to advance college and career ready policies.  He served as the nation's second Director of Educational Technology and has been a formal or informal advisor to three Presidential campaigns.  He is on the Board of Directors for the Data Quality Campaign and serves on the regional board for the social innovation fund Indego Africa.  He also serves a Sr. Advisor to Whiteboard Advisors which provides strategic consulting for investors, philanthropies, and entrepreneurs.


In 2009, John was named as one of 25 American Council on Germany “Young Leaders” to participate in an annual conference with German business, finance, and government professionals. He was also selected by eSchoolNews as one of the 30 most influential leaders in the education technology industry.
