Through readings, videos, and discussions, participants explore literacy development from kindergarten through 5th grade. Topics include learning theories, current research on reading and writing, and understanding how to create an effective literacy environment through a balanced literacy approach. We also explore the key components of a workshop model, and review a range of formative and summative assessments. Effective lesson planning is explored with a focus on the Common Core Standards.
